For the 2018 Lollapalooza poster we are proud to partner with not one but two amazing women, Jessie Unterhalter and Katey Truhn, aka Jessie and Katey. Known for their vibrant and expansive murals across the globe, these two artists have been steadily producing pattern-centric pieces that transform average surfaces into captivating dream worlds. They based the design on a bird's-eye view of Grant Park, home of Lollapalooza, incorporating elements like the harbors on Lake Michigan and Buckingham Fountain into an abstract map representing the flow, shapes and patterns of the audience. Inspired by the fluidity of music and its fans, this piece of art creates a juxtaposition of nature and the energy of the festival. Bridging the past and the present, the typography is a throwback to an iconic 1933 Chicago World's Fair poster. As with all of our posters, we only print one run and once sold out they are not reissued. See below for more details:
Signed & Numbered Edition — Silkscreened with seven spot colors on heavyweight, 100% cotton rag paper. This version does not include the band lineup. Printed in a numbered edition of 350 that is also signed by the artists and Lollapalooza/Jane’s Addiction founder Perry Farrell. 36”x 24”
Commemorative Edition $30 — Offset-printed with four-color process ink on heavyweight, uncoated paper. Includes complete band lineup. 18” x 24”
* All posters will begin shipping the week of July 30.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Jessie Unterhalter and Katey Truhn are a Baltimore-based artist team striving to transform public spaces into colorful and vibrant experiences. They have been collaborating on large-scale murals, fine art and sculpture since 2012. With a mission that grows from a simple desire to bring playfulness to public spaces and enhance people's lives through art. They believe that the aesthetics of one’s environments can influence their emotions and state of mind. With a passion for people and design, they strive to bring life to unsung spaces through abstract painting and sculpture. Their work explores themes of movement and symmetry, inspired by bold color combinations, patterns in nature, woven textiles and formalism. With consideration for the architectural surfaces of each environment, their dynamic paintings often curve around corners and spill onto the ground.
